Amplify Her: A Visual Story of Sisterhood and Celebration
by Jadesola OMOTADE
To close out International Women’s Month, Ideascope Media had the honour of serving as the official photographer for Amplify Her, a give‑to‑gain gathering created to celebrate, uplift, and connect women.

Walking into the venue, I knew my role extended far beyond taking pictures. I was there to honour the energy in the room; the creativity, the sisterhood, the joy, the vulnerability, and the power each woman carried with her. My task was to translate all of that into a visual story.
The programme was beautifully diverse, featuring poetry, choir performances, a women’s empowerment panel, music, dance, crafts, and refreshments. Each segment required its own photographic approach:
•Crafts & Games opened the day, offering perfect moments for candid storytelling. Hands creating, children laughing, women bonding, and a community spirit in full bloom.
•During the poetry rendition, I leaned into intimacy, using close frames to capture the emotion behind each word.
•The choir performance was rich with harmony and movement. I alternated between wide shots that showed the audience’s immersion and tighter frames that highlighted individual passion.
•The women’s empowerment panel called for narrative‑driven imagery. Gestures, reactions, shared laughter, and the subtle moments where speakers connected deeply with the audience.
•Headliner Misha B filled the room with her unmistakable presence. Dynamic angles helped translate her sound and energy into still images.
•Then Jet Black took over with a dance session that electrified the atmosphere. Fast shutter speeds and fluid compositions helped capture the rhythm and joy in motion.
•Finally, the refreshments and networking segment brought a softer warmth. Shared conversations, hearty laughter, genuine smiles, and the gentle closing of a beautiful day.

As a visual journalist, I approach every event with intention. I arrived early to assess lighting, map out vantage points, and understand the programme flow. With such a diverse audience, cultural sensitivity was essential. I am always mindful of photographing women in ways that honour their identity, dignity, and confidence.
Technically, precision mattered. I adjusted settings for fast‑paced performances, switched lenses for intimate moments, and moved quietly to capture scenes without intrusion. Blending into the environment allowed guests to remain comfortable while I documented the magic unfolding around them.
My goal wasn’t just to photograph the event, it was to craft a visual narrative that reflected the heart of the celebration. And I am proud to say that’s exactly what I achieved.
